I would tell your GP that your Dad has MS and this is a concern to you ( i am sure you wont have it, but say this as it will help you get an MRI ordered now)   Also say because of your Dads condition you would like to be seen by a Nuerologist.     If you would like to talk to others of your age like Una, then there is a group on her for young people.      Let us know what your GP says.       My GP like Una's said just to take the meds and see how I get on but because i started to feel unwell with headaches and night sweats he ordered one for me urgently (in case of brain tumour) it turned out i had two conditions the other was vascular.     Because of this i also got referred to a neurologist, it took 4 months to see him.     Use your Dads condition as a reason to be seen.

I'm from the uk and just asked my gp to refer me to a neurologist. He said to wait and see if the meds help but I told him I wish to be referred now as the NHS waiting time is long. Wasn't joking. It took me over a year to get a first appointment. Then you'll meet with a neurologist and after going through checks he should send you for an MRI

im seeing doctor next week and going to tell him all syptoms, will he send me to neurologist? or do i have to find one myself?

Do you have a neurologist yet? They should send you for an MRI scan to rule out anything else. I just had my MRI last week and waiting on results.

I've been feeling like this myself. I'm 26 and had this for 2 years now. Getting on the right meds can really help but the problem is finding which ones work for you. And I've found a lot of info to share with gp on this site as she didn't really know much about TN.

I have no medical background just what i have learnt through this site.      there is TN type 1 and 2.  Yours sounds like Type 1.   There is an op for it, but this is only when the meds you can take cannot control the pain.   First thing is to clam the nerve down there are a few meds out there that can work very well.     I was able to control mine with just 600mgs a day (went up slowly) to avoid side effects and it did the trick, I have not had any further attacks for 9 months.   I had no side effects from the meds.      I have developed type 2 but that is another story (constant tooth ache and burning in temples at night)    and that is unusual so hopefully you will have just type 1 and it can be controlled.       Best wishes    elaine
