I, too, know the feeling. This is my second round of TN. I had it on the left side and had MVD. Now I have it on the right side and I'm in between appointments to have my second MVD. I think my family and friends are just sick of hearing about…

Cynthia, Let us know what you and your surgeon decided. I did the pre-op blood work the same day I saw the surgeon. The blood work was good for so many days. And I scheduled my surgery within that time frame. Plus it saved me another trip to the…

Well, I had an appt. scheduled for June 17th, but I got the dreaded phone call to reschedule for the 29th.  So, I'm off to see the Neurologist, in Seattle, tomorrow. I know this is just the beginning of a long process of tests, more appts. and waiting for results and then the pre-surgery hoops you have to jump through. I'm hoping for the best but I'm kind of prepared for the worst. I'll let you all know what I find out. Thanks for always being here for a place to vent.

Cynthia Cross replied to Holly Brook's discussion 'i just want to know why everyone has not done mvd surgery??????????????'
I was diagnosed with TN, on the left side, in the summer of 2009 and had MVD in Nov. 2009. I was found to be allergic to most of the meds given to treat TN and my MRI showed a compression, so I was a candidate for surgery. I too have wondered why so…

I have now printed this many times for my family and friends and they have all thanked me. I even gave it to a few of my dr's and my dentist so that they can have a better understanding of how to treat and deal with me or other patients they…

Cynthia Cross replied to Lori Branco's discussion 'Atypical Facial Pain and Surgery?'
Hello Lori, My TN on my right side is totally different from the left side. As a matter of fact, I've been having pain in the right side for about an hour and a half now and it is severe. My right side is an achy dull pain with some sharp here…

Hello Lori, I was diagnosed with TN in 2008, on the left side. I tried tegretol, and it helped within a few days, but then I became highly allergic to it and found out I couldn't take any of the meds used to treat TN. I had MVD surgery in Nov.…

Wow, I'm at a lose for words. I don't know how accessable you are to other doctors but I'd say, you need to get a second opinion with a specialist. If you are in the vacinity of a medical university or research hospital that deals in…

Have had Microvascular Decompression: Left side
Please share your TN story with us...(How did your pain first emerge and then change over time? Were you ever misdiagnosed? Do you believe your pain was caused by dental work? Have you had unsuccessful surgeries or medications?)
I was diagnosed with TN in summer 2009. I was put on meds. I found out almost immediately that I was highly allergic to most meds used to treat TN. My only real option was surgery. I had Microvascular Decompression surgery and have been pain free since. Now I have TN on the right side.

Hi! Thank you for your kind words. I am so glad that you are able to have a doctor close to home that can help you. Lily will be part of a medical publication with a few other pediatric cases to get other pediatric neurosurgeons educated to be able to perform MVD's for kids. I will be estatic if we can accomplish this for kids with TN!

Hi Cynthia,
Welcome. Thanks for the positive feed on your MVD surgery. I am sorry you are having pain on the opposite side but hopefully you will have great success with surgery for it also. I too have been either allergic to most medicines or they cease to work. Keep us posted on your course of treatment for the TN on your right side.

Cynthia, welcome and thanks for sharing your story. I'm so glad that you were a candidate for MVD and that it worked out. More importantly, I'm glad you returned to help support others unable to escape the pain. It's very much appreciated.
