I thought it would be interesting to compare notes as to how we feel the NHS is 'treating' us. I was diagnosed last July and am very lucky to have a very supportive GP. He's not my official GP but is…Continue

Why not place yourself on the new members map. It is at the top of the page on the black header. I am the only Brit on there and feel a bit lonely :(

When i had my first neuro appointment i wrote everything down, he took the paper off me and asked me top explain it all in my own words.   I then forgot half of it!     Occ Health like to discuss the condition with you, at least mine did and he asked me questions which made me think he had not read up on my case.   I preferred it that way as i could explain it with feeling rather then him just reading it.

Elstep, Am getting fed up of having to explain it, even the doctors dont seem to get it. I feel the more medical people involved in a condition they dont understood the more mixed feedback I am going to get? Why go through asking for your records if they dont get read? x

Inis,  I had my OH appointment recently.   Although I gave my constant for my medical records to be read, he did not seem to have read them, as he just asked me to explain it all to him.

Hi just joined the site.

I work in a school and my GP put me on 12 weeks sick leave,(4 weeks left) this prompted my head to get in touch with OH. I didnt give consent for medical reports to be shared as am quite a private person(new head who I dont know very well) and feel its between me and my neurologist. The OH got in touch and was very understanding and we breifly discussed my condition. He wrote back to my head saying I had a debilitating neurological disorder, I see my neurologist in 5 weeks , depending on what is said and wether I go back to work and on what level, I may have to give consent?? x

Hi Elstep,

The legal definition of a disability in UK law is one that has lasted 12 months & has a substantial effect on day to day activities. A proactive employer would refer you to an OH practitioner -Dr or Nurse, if they wanted advice on how to manage your attendance at work or understand the true medical position going forward i.e. reasonable adjustments. Sick notes dont provide employers with much info to be honest. It needs employee written consent for a medical report from your Dr's. This is usually done by OH but sometimes with no OH provision a competent HR professional can do it.

OH, how do we stand with this condition with our employment.  Is it a covered by the disability act ?     I have this and another condition and I am covered but i am not sure if it is this or the other condition which is giving me this protection or both.       ( i was off work long term sick with both at the same time and my sick note stated i had both conditions)

Hi All & Elstep,

Hope you are well today! I am an RN and specialist nurse practitioner In Occupational Health. I can advise people on employment issues regarding their condition. As a sufferer myself & trying to do a professional job, I understand totally how difficult it is for people with this and holding down a job
