I had my extraction on Friday and this is what I wrote about it on my blog.

I was conscious sedated so I remember t0o much, but no enough to piece it all together. I dunno if I had my jaw dislocated, I sure as hell picked the wrong gorram time to wake up if they did. I know they had issues with one of my teeth, they have had to put stitches in - trust me they are no fun, I already want them out! One of the injections to numb be hurt like hell (as I said so much for that sedation). I have a few moments of recollection for the teeth cleaning, and the extraction of my left side (as I said I don't think they had the fun time with that). I vaguely remember my filling being put in and remember as I said my right wizzie being pulled (no fun at all)

All that said my right hand side is ok, not a thing at all. My left - yeah I am dosing up on acetaminophen like no business but I think a lot of that is the stitches I have had put in. I am glad my wisdom tooth was simple. I could eat normal foods right now!

I have a dental appointment this week and I am getting a little worried.  This is supposed to be a basic full exam.  I hope it will include having my bite checked though.  How long before the appointment should I take my meds, including my percocet would be optimal?

Have had recent successful MVD -- I probably need 5 fillings, 2 root canals and an extraction (trying to remember what dental work was left)

Does anyone know or heard of going back to dentist post good mvd - having trouble?

All the best Elaine with all the procedures you are facing. I am hoping that all are as painless as possible for you. A good Dentist is worth their weight in gold!

i must do 2 implants on each side of lowers to hold denture. the bone graft is first. then the post follows. ill glo after lunch when the office is warmer . im taking my pain meds. im also callimg my personal doctor for guidance. i know 48-72 hours is the worst. im not ready for this at all.

eventually i must pull all the uppers and do the same process. im not a happy camper   but i dont intend to have extra pain. ill place gel paks in the freezer and have my heating pads ready. I would not say i had a great time when he pulled 7 lowers. Im using anesthesia. Its the aftermath.

there is an oral rinse like lidoderm for rinsing. so i hope to be very prepared. I have to get ready for the reconstructive surgery in may. im also reading reds instructions. ugh!!!!!!!

I am now 4 days post extraction and I have had no TN attacks on that side. It went beautifully. I just wish my left side would calm down. It is cold and rainy here and that automatically stirs up my left side, but as far as the dental work...A++++!!!

I asked my Neuro and she said if you know you need the work done suck it up! And my GP gave me 5mg Valium for the day to help. I had a good chat to the dentist first and pulled off the paperwork Red recommended from the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association website and took it for him to read. I also printed off a copy of  one of the pictures on the Face Pain Info  tab and drew a line of my pain paths in red ink hi-lighting my " TN pain tooth" and told him to avoid at all costs injecting into any dangerous areas. He examined me with a finger and I apologize to those in active pain as I know that will trigger a spasm. I have an agreement with my dentist that if my pain becomes active on the day of appointment I can cancel at no financial cost as he understands the reason. Taking all the above steps made my extraction as pain free as possible with no after effects TN wise. My deep worry beforehand was pointless. I am grateful.

Phoebe, I have had one dental visit, whilst having an attack and never again, as it made the pain 100 worse.        I have been again just for a check up, whilst in remission  but was so afraid it would happen again, that i refused to let the dentist use any instruments to poke about, so the visit was a waste of money.       Like you I need to know what medication to take before my next visit.

Hi ya'll.

I have a dental appointment approaching that will include a full inspection of my mouth.  I know my teeth and gums are not in great shape, I have always been fearful of going to the dentist.  But this visit is freaking me out.

What can I do to relax on that day?  Should I take extra of my percocet?  Can the dentist tell me to take extra or should I call my GP who prescribed them?  Should I bother my neurosurgeon the the fact that I am going to the dentist?

As it is I have pain when the dentist probes around in my gums, I am sitting here becoming increasingly scared.  I AM ALLERGIC TO PAIN!!!  What do I do???

I dread dental work as I have also read that it can bring on another attack.  Reading your stories has given me hope that  dental does not always have such horrific results.   thanks
