I find that the Kindle is easier to read than a regular book these days. My latest book is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. I'm also reading a book on Diabetes. That one is not so much fun.

Joy of Joy!! just found out my library here in Derbyshire offer free e-books to download and just " borrowed" 2 books I have looked forward to reading. I recently finished Child 44 by Tom Robb Smith. Such a good read. It's set in Russia in the 50's. The protagonist is a member of the secret police and very privileged in those difficult times. He soon finds himself in deep trouble and on the track of a serial killer. No easy quest when as Russia is so perfect and it's people so happy crime no longer exists officially. I gave it 8.5/10.

I'm not sleeping too well at the moment so I'm doing lots of reading. I've just rediscovered Agatha Christie who I read a lot when I was much younger. What strikes me is that the plots are good and there is not the 'padding' in some of the modern detective novels. Much easier to follow the plot that way. :-)

Someone recommended Calibre to me as a good way of organising your ebook collection. It's available from http://calibre-ebook.com/download and I'm very impressed with it. It can convert to various formats and does all sorts of other stuff. There is a good introductory video on the web site but it is very intuitive to use.

Just thought I would share. :-)

I like 'spooky' as a description of the Zafon book - I was searching for an appropriate word and I think that is it indeed.

It's so great that members here have Kindles.  Me too.  Keep sharing your finds, both good reads and great prices!

I just found a collection of seven Andre Norton books available for my Kindle on Amazon UK for 69 pence! That's around$1.oo so I'm definitely going to download that to try in a few days once I've finished my current book.

Another book I read last year that I really enjoyed was The Shadow Of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Originally written in Spanish but wonderfully translated and just a superb read on so many levels.

For anyone who is a fantasy fan, it's hard to beat the books of Andre Norton.  I suppose I confirm my age by this observation, but I'm RE-reading some of them these days and enjoying them again.  Harry Potter may have been written for kids, but I know many adults who rave over those books too. For books written with a mixture of fantasy and high human drama, the work of Dean Koonz is outstanding;  his Odd Thomas series I found particularly poignant and engaging.

Go in Peace and Power,

I treated myself to a Kindle at the end of last year - I love it. So lightweight!

I was reading a favourite book again the other week and it seemed so big and cumbersome in comparison.

I try to read a mixed bag. Someone persuaded me to try a fantasy trilogy last year and much to my surprise I really enjoyed reading it, possibly because the 'fantasy' parts were sort of plausible in a way. The series was the Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb.

I was tempted to try the Susan Howatch book that Gloria recommends but that is not available for the Kindle and I really need books I can read at odd angles at the moment.

Do you have a Kindle or an ereader Jackie?

I absolutely loved the Steig books. I took a while to get into the first one but once I did I could not put the books down, Lisbeth is a great multi faceted character.

I've recently been reading a lot of Peter James and Harlan Coben, both murder/mystery writers.

Peter James has written a series of books all based in Brighton (England) with the same lead character Inspector Roy Grace. I've found them a cracking read but you really do need to read the series in the right order as although the books can be read as standalone books there are story lines that run from one book to the next.

Coben is an American writer and always has a lot of twists and turns in his plots.
