I just finished reading the entire works of Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park, Lost World, and all the others.

So sad he died, I would have loved to see what else he would have cooked up

Who knew this group was hiding out here?  I read a novel a night! I am one of those wacky speed readers and LOVE that there are fellow readers on here!

I am looking forward to reading through what everyone is into these days!

Send me a review, elstep... {:-)  I haven't given up my "day job" yet, of course.  But I've often wondered if this bio might be good enough to consider publishing.

Regards, Red

Red, your autobiography looks like a very interesting read. It is always a pleasure to read about someone else's life. Sure would be nice if my dad did what you have done in recording his history. Wonderful. Thanks! I'll be reading about you and yours.

Until I noticed that SaraM had just joined our book club, I had forgotten about it.  At the risk of seeming a bit pushy or egotistical, I would like to broaden an announcement that I made to my circle of friends here on Living With TN, a few days ago.

============

Greetings to friends and colleagues.

As a few of you know, I dabble at quite a number of things in retirement.  But then I've done that all of my life.  Around the edges of earning a living as a military officer and later Aerospace systems engineer,  I've run small businesses as a photographer, gem broker, jewelry designer, and a few other things.  I've also written websites for 22 years, and researched chronic face pain for 18. The work I do here at Living with TN is of course not "dabbling" -- it's a major committed investment of time and avocation on behalf of others. But I live a larger life than online.

Today I offer a spot of light for friends here at Living with TN.  With considerable trepidation and no fanfare at all, I have just published my autobiography to my own website.  I doubt that I shall ever attempt to see it published in print or Kindle format.  But for those of you who may have time to read and perhaps an interest in one of your site moderators, it can be downloaded in chapters from:  http://www.lawhern.org/Journeys/.  Written originally in the early 1980s, edited and updated in 1995, this manuscript speaks to where I have come from as a common man in an uncommon era -- and where I have arrived.

For whatever this may be worth, a request:  please don't blow my cover to my wife.  She's read the book as have my kids. But my family may not approve of my going public with it, even with the pseudonyms I've used for the major characters. Sometimes we just have to take our chances on friends.

I welcome any feedback y'all are inclined to provide.  Even "don't give up your day job"... {:-)

Regards and best to all,

Red Lawhern, Ph.D.

Hi, I just joined this group!  I LOVE reading...it is the only way I can truly get my mind off of everything!  I am currently reading two books, Striking Back and Defending Jacob!!  Defending Jacob is really good.  It is hard to put down, but I do have two little ones so some times I can't pick it up as much as I want too!!

Hi Anne, that's really interesting, I was excited to read that the Friels were your neigbours! Irish playwrights are very popular in Prague, especially Martin McDonagh, J.M.Synge and Marina Carr. I took a class of Irish literature at my university a few years backs and we got to read some truly good prose and poetry there. I think Irish authors have a unique sense of humor, and I admire their ability to combine the element of comic and tragic in their writings.
