Mvd for bilateral TN

I would not think that a surgeon would do an MVD on both sides at the same time.  There are risks involved ie. hearing issues (one of many risks).  I read  somewhere that a patient had an MVD on one side but the surgeon would not do the other side as hearing was impaired during the initial MVD.  If something would happen when the second MVD was done the patient could be completely hearing impaired.  I would agree that it would be great just to get both sides done and over with at the same time.  BUT, I don't know what a surgeon's opinion would be.  Just thought I'd offer some food for thought.  I certainly would take "hearing impaired" over the pain.  But, the chance of the MVD not taking the pain away and being hearing impaired on both sides would be personally devastating.

MVDs are done on one side at a time. if there is need for an MVD on the opposite side, the subsequent surgery is usually carried out within a 6 month time frame, pending any first surgical complications.
