Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) - Online Support Group

We are patients living with Trigeminal Neuralgia, here for your support.

Hi everyone.

I've been having really bad shocks in my teeth lately and wanted to know to anything might help.

Asked my doctor today but she just said she doesnt know. (helpful) lol

Anyway, i cant eat and im drinking through a straw at the moment.

Is there any gel or anything that might calm the nerves down. I'm on 1800mg of Gabeptin but doesnt seem to help with the teeth pain.

Hope you're all well.

Una

Jamie-the simple answer is yes I do believe that lamictal has been a Godsend for me. I cannot promise that it will work the same for you. We are all different but I have been through many meds and I can say that lamictal has by far the fewest sid effects. It has given me my life back. I wish I could say that it is the drug for everyone but I cannot. I wish they would do more research. Doctors are, in my opinion, well at least many, I have had some good ones, Drug pushers. I have gotten alot ofhelp from this site. In my 20yrs with this I have never met another TN sufferer. My heart goes out to all who have this horrible illness. I will provide updates-I am not sure whether we are friends or not-if ont just request and I will keep you informed. There is hope. I have sen hell and I chose to leave it.
James
Hi Katie, long time-it's great to hear from you. I would avoid the tegrtol if I were you. It's a med from the 70's that doc's seem to put everyone on first. They put me on it in 1992! There are way better meds now with fewer side effects. Lamictal is working for me. I do believe that although it may not provide the pain relief for everyone that they will definitely notice that they can feel more human. What a great feeling that is! I hope all goes well with your pregancy. I keep alll TN sufferers in my prayers every night. I will say a special one for you tonight. Take good care, James

I also agree that the 2400 gabapentin does not help my teeth. I find valium helps more than anything else so far...but being pregnant, I have not tried that much. And James, glad you are feeling better and maybe I'll try lamictal after the baby is born - they want me to do tegretol first, but I hear the side effects are pretty bad.
